On Thursday, September 14, 2017, Barnes County North 7th– and 8th-grade students participated in a “You’re Hired” event at the BCN school. The “You’re Hired” event is a STEM lesson organized through the NDSCS STEM Outreach Program. Cheryl Brown is the Outreach Specialist that came and presented at the school.
Students were put into groups to come up with an invention to help solve a real-world problem while focusing on the 4C’s (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) to complete their task. After the students finished their invention, they presented to a “Hiring Board” made up of community members. The “Hiring Board” then collaborated together and decided on the group that they would hire.
This year the 7th and 8th grade students used Makey-Makey (a programmable circuit board) to make their invention.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated. A job well done!
