AmeriCorps Director Visits His 50th State, NORTH DAKOTA!

Director of AmeriCorps visits North Dakota Reading Corps

The North Dakota Reading Corps and Madison Elementary hosted a site visit with Director of AmeriCorps Bill Basl on Thursday, March 31st. AmeriCorps is a national service program that engages over 75,000 individuals in service throughout the United States. Director Basl made his first trip to North Dakota to visit AmeriCorps programs in the Fargo area.

During the visit, SEEC staff members shared information on the evidence-based Reading Corps model and demonstrated the need for Tier 2 literacy intervention services in North Dakota schools. Master Coaches talked about the Reading Corp’s emphasis on data-based decision making, showing how the Reading Corps creates real, measurable results for students. Over 600 North Dakota students are receiving literacy intervention services through AmeriCorps, putting these students on track towards reading proficiency.

Also joining the visit was Wayde Sicke, Executive Director of the North Dakota State Commission for Community and National Service, State Commission staff, and staff members from Senator Hoeven, Senator Heitkamp, and Congressman Cramer’s offices.
